Ms. Angela S. Larimer is a highly skilled family law attorney serving Chicago, concentrating on Litigation, Mediation and Collaboration. Whether your family law issues are simple or complex, Ms. Larimer can assist you in gaining clarity and understanding in what can seem an insurmountable process. She helps to efficiently resolve your unique family law situation, including divorce, child support, parenting time and decision making, alimony/maintenance, parentage and paternity issues, post-divorce enforcement of orders, modification of existing orders, premarital and post marital agreements. She works directly with you to empower you with the knowledge to make wise decisions and identify which method is best for your desired outcome.

Guardian ad Litem, Advanced Mediation & Collaborative Law Certifications

Ms. Larimer is a frequent appointee of Cook County judges to serve as a Child Representative or Guardian Ad Litem for minor children in intricate, high-conflict domestic relations cases. To advance the cause of those who seek her assistance, she also regularly attends litigation, collaboration, mediation and family law seminars led by judges, experts and legislative authorities in order to hone her skills and to keep up on cutting-edge resolutions, issues, laws and technologies. Her ongoing advanced training and certifications, including evaluation processes that emphasize the Model Standards and Risk Management principles, have not only enhanced, but streamlined her abilities to handle and resolve even the most complicated family law scenarios.

Angela’s Affiliations, Education and Memberships

Ms. Larimer is a member of the Illinois State Bar Association, Chicago Bar Association, the International Academy of Collaborative Professionals, the Collaborative Law Institute of Illinois, and the Association of Family and Conciliatory Courts.  Ms. Larimer recently obtained a Master’s Degree from the University of Chicago, where she also studied at its affiliated college, Oxford University in England. Additionally, she earned a double bachelor’s degree in English Literature and Rhetoric, with a minor in Broadcast Journalism, from the University of Illinois, and a teaching certificate from Northeastern University in Chicago.  She is a recent Master’s of Liberal Arts (Creative Writing) graduate of the University of Chicago, where she also completed courses at Oxford University in England.

Community Involvement:  
Angela serves as a Child Representative and Guardian Ad Litem for Chicago Volunteer Legal Services, where she works pro bono for the Chicago area’s less fortunate. She also serves on the board of Everyday Edgebrook, a group of independent small businesses working together to improve the business district of the Edgebrook neighborhood in Chicago.

Erin Cartwright

Attorney

Erin Cartwright was born and raised in Hartland, Michigan. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology and Sociology, with a minor in Business Administration, from Saint Mary’s College in Notre Dame, Indiana in 1995. She went on to receive her Juris Doctor from Thomas M. Cooley Law School in 1999.

In 2000, Erin relocated to Lake County, Illinois, where she began her legal career as an Assistant State’s Attorney with the Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office. During her tenure from 2000 to 2004, she concentrated on prosecuting Domestic Violence and Order of Protection violations, gaining extensive courtroom experience and developing a strong foundation in litigation.

In 2004, Erin transitioned into private practice as an Associate Attorney at Chausow Shafer, P.C. in Highland Park. Her practice focused on Family Law, Orders of Protection, Criminal Defense, and Guardianship of Minors. In 2009, she founded her own law firm, where she continued handling civil and criminal litigation matters until her election as Circuit Court Clerk in 2016.

As Circuit Court Clerk, Erin served as the official record keeper for the court system. She prioritized modernizing court operations and advancing technology in government. Under her leadership, Lake County implemented mandatory e-filing, launched a new case management system for all four justice partners in 2023, digitized court records, integrated artificial intelligence to streamline administrative processes, and incorporated electronic certification services. Her initiatives focused on improving access to justice, increasing efficiency, and promoting environmentally responsible practices.

In 2022, Erin returned to private practice, focusing exclusively on Family Law with Sage Counsel, LLC and Solutions First Legal Services before joining Larimer Law, LLC. She now dedicates her practice to helping individuals and families navigate complex family law matters with experience, insight, and practical understanding of the court system.

 

Erin is actively involved in the legal and local community. She is a member of the Association of Women Attorneys of Lake County, the Lake County Bar Association, and the Illinois State Bar Association. She is also affiliated with W.I.N.G.S. (Women Interested in Government Service), the National Association for Court Management, and the National Center for State Courts. Erin previously served as President of the Illinois Association for Court Clerks and as Immediate Past President of the Illinois Association of County Officials. She currently serves on the executive board for the Coalition to Reduce Recidivism and on the executive steering committee for Women United, a sub-chapter of United Way. She also served as Chair of Lake County Cares in 2018.

Madeleine Tick

Attorney

Madeleine understands that family law can be an overwhelming and emotional experience, often leaving clients feeling lost or unsure about the next steps. Madeleine believes in resolving disputes in the most efficient and cost-effective way possible, and works diligently to negotiate settlements that prioritize her clients’ best interests. When settlement isn’t feasible, however, Madeleine is a skilled litigator who will fiercely advocate for her clients’ rights in court. 

 

A key priority for Madeleine is making sure that clients fully understand their legal options and the implications of their decisions. Madeleine provides accessible legal services to both English- and Spanish-speaking clients, breaking down complex legal concepts into straightforward, relatable terms. She ensures that all clients, regardless of background or experience with the legal system, feel fully engaged and empowered throughout the process. No matter which language you speak, she is committed to making sure you never feel in the dark about your case. 

 

With a special focus on family dynamics, particularly cases involving children, Madeleine works tirelessly to shield kids from the stresses of divorce. Too often, parents get caught in conflicts that can harm children emotionally. Madeleine makes it a priority to focus on the child’s best interests, guiding her clients toward solutions that prioritize their children’s well-being while keeping them out of the emotional turmoil that often accompanies divorce.

 

Madeleine is an active member of the Decalogue Society and its Women’s Committee. She earned her Juris Doctor degree from The John Marshall Law School, where she served as a Student Ambassador and President of The John Marshall Law School Decalogue Society. She also holds a Bachelor’s of Arts in International Studies from DePaul University, where she double minored in Spanish language and Global Asian studies. Her career has been dedicated exclusively to family law, and she brings a compassionate yet thorough approach to her practice, working to ensure that her clients feel heard, respected, and well-represented. 

 

Originally from Southeastern Wisconsin, Madeleine now resides in Chicago, where she enjoys photography, swimming, ballet, and theater.

Alma Perez

Paralegal

Alma brings over 13 years of dedicated experience in domestic relations and divorce matters. She earned her Associate Degree in Paralegal Studies from Northwestern Business College in 2011 and is currently furthering her education by pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Paralegal Studies at Loyola University Chicago.

With extensive experience in family law, Alma skillfully manages cases from initial client intake through final resolution. She understands that domestic relations matters are not only legally complex but also deeply personal and emotionally sensitive. Alma approaches each case with professionalism, discretion, and empathy, ensuring clients feel informed, supported, and confident throughout every stage of the legal process.

 

Alma plays an integral role in case management and preparation. She maintains consistent communication with clients in both Spanish and English, providing timely updates and serving as a dependable point of contact. Her responsibilities include coordinating and overseeing discovery, drafting pleadings and discovery responses, preparing document productions, and assisting attorneys in preparation for hearings, settlement conferences, and trial. Her strong organizational skills and attention to detail help move cases forward efficiently and effectively.

Outside of work, Alma is a devoted wife and mother to her daughter and son. She enjoys spending quality time with her family, staying active, and maintaining close connections with loved ones.
